Sew it Yourself Kits are back

Happy Bank Holiday - is it raining where you are too? Luckily we had planned to all chill out at home today and do our own thing and then a fun meal out this evening.

So many of you are now getting into sewing or wanting some sewing made simple so I'm relaunching my Sew It Yourself Kits with new prices.

I have three available at the moment with many more in the pipeline. The kits are great value as they come in a gorgeous gift bag - so perfect for crafty friends or children and they contain full step by step photo instructions, pre-cut fabrics so no cutting or pinning and stuffing too. All you need to add are a needle and thread (and scissors for thread) or a sewing machine. All the kits are suitable for both hand or machine sewing.

Let's start with the kit my little Blake helped me to design by drawing a picture for me. This is Roarsome the Monsta:

Shown here in Red and Green. He's just £9.50 plus postage. You can sew the pre cut elements where you like on him to change up his look!

Next the Sew it Yourself Owl Kit:

Making a Titanic Birthday Cake

So back in July Blake turned 6. He didn't want a party as he had asked to visit the Train Museum in York instead. I decided however that I'd make him a cake regardless as we were having a few friends for tea and then he could share the rest at school.

 At this point I wasn't worried as I imagined he'd be asking for a Thomas the Tank Engine cake - my preferred option as this would entail no baking and a short trip to the supermarket to but a ready made one. I was however fully expecting him to ask for a Minecraft themed cake, I'd prepped it in my head and spent a good few hours on Pinterest scoping out other such themed cakes. I'd even sourced where to buy a square cutter and green icing from - I'm no cake decorator or baker but was happy to give it a go. 

Imagine my horror when two days BEFORE said birthday, small boy asked for a Titanic cake. I offered to correct his slip of the tongue and asked if he meant to say Minecraft. No Mummy, was his determined reply - I want a Titanic cake. Great I thought, can't see me grabbing one of those off the shelf in Tesco.

I somehow managed to create the scene shortly before Titanic hit the rather huge iceberg.  At one point however, I was going to present him with a blue cake with a lump of white icing on it and declare that Titanic had indeed already sunk. Figured this might disappoint small boy somewhat.

I panicked and set about re examining Pinterest for Titanic cakes, these were my two favourites for very different reasons:

 

I was still panicking however, one baking is not my strong point, two cake decorating is not my strong point. So I started Googling like a woman possessed and to my delight found a Titanic model kit at Hobbycraft for just £2.50 (life saver) and a ready to decorate chocolate cake from Asda.

Building the Titanic. For just £2.50 the kit instructions demanded a lot and said I'd need a hammer, glue, sand paper, nails and paint. Erm no, an emery board some glue and my kids paint did just fine thanks!

I had some alphabet cutters from Zac's naming day cakes. All I added extra were candles and a sparkler. Job's a good 'un.

Luckily Blake loved it and was even happier as the Titanic hadn't sunk and he got to keep it as a toy to play with. Unexpected cake bonus.

I only have 4 more months to wait and see what Zac wants on his next Birthday Cake!

Handmade at Amazon

Ooh today I woke up very happy. Reason number one, the sun is shining - yey! fed up of waking up to dark skies and rain and sunshine makes me feel so good. Reason number two; I got an email I've been hoping for......

Woo-hoo, I've been invited to join Handmade at Amazon, selling my fabric makes. So happy I'm bouncing around the house and the kids think I'm more nuts than usual and believe me that's a tough gig!

I've got oodles of ideas buzzing around in my head for new ranges too, however today's delights include taking the boys shopping for new school shoes (groans), supermarket visit and general wifey / mumsie chores like putting washing away etc. I'm living the dream folks!

South Hill Designs Bunting and Table Runner

Another local business woman to me is Jessica who is a South Hill Designs Artist selling beautiful jewellery and accessories.

She spotted me at an event and asked if I could make her some bunting to coordinate with her business branding and colours, of course I said yes!

Doesn't her stall look pretty with the bunting and table runner too? This is her stall at a recent event in Nottingham - The Riverside Festival.

My order book is now open and I do have the fabric in stock, so if you'd like to order it's just £10 per metre of bunting and table runners are priced at £7.50.

Pop Up Fabric Craft Desk Bins

Blimey it's nearly the end of the school holiday's for me and my boys. I've loved every minute having them home with me but it's time to start the gentle ease of getting myself back into a routine so that it isn't too much of a shock the first day back!

So today I found myself in the room of craft back at my sewing machine. I've been wanting to make these for a while after my first prototype but wanted to get them right so I could say exact sizes and stuff. I'm pleased to say I have mastered it and have now added these cute pop up bins to my product range:

I've made three samples here in a choice of fabrics with coordinating insides. They are approximately 7 inches high and wide too. Once the elasticated ribbon is released, the bin 'pops' up! I think they'll make a pretty accompaniment to most desks.

I'm taking orders for these now (UK only). You can ask for these fabrics or choose from other fabrics available.
